PTO Corner The next PTO meeting is this Tuesday, September 20th at 7:00 pm. We hope you can join us in the Media Center or virtually as we kick off the school year. (virtual link provided below) - The Bear Wear store will be open one more week and closes on Sunday, September 25th. There are a lot of great spirit wear options available!
- Brown School’s Mileage Club will return the weeks of 9/26 and 10/3 during lunch recess! Mileage Club allows students to get active by running/walking around the track and earning fun charms! We will need volunteers to help with this event during lunch recess Mon/Wed/Fri during the weeks of 9/26 and 10/3. All volunteers must have a completed volunteer consent form on file. Sign up using the link on our Mileage Club page, linked below.
- Volunteers are needed throughout the year! Please check out our available opportunities (before and after school, many can be done with younger children in tow) and let us know what you would like to help with.
- Did you know the PTO website has a list of event dates for the entire year as well as a page of important links such as lunch menus, transportation, district calendars, sports tickets, etc? Add it to your bookmark list for a quick reference!
- Finally, one easy way to help the PTO earn money is through Box Tops for Education. Download the app, scan your shopping receipts, and you’re done!

Kindness Club 2022-2023 All students will be invited to participate in Kindness Club again this school year; Kindness Club is an option for each student at Brown School. The purpose of the Kindness Club is to focus on, and spread, kindness all around our Brown School building and out into our community. The way we accomplish this is through monthly meetings that provide an opportunity to participate in a group activity. Some of the Kindness Club activities that were done last year included videos of appreciation for staff, placemats for Veteran’s Day breakfast, trash pick up on the playground, and holiday cards for local assisted living facilities. While anyone is welcome to join Kindness Club, students must sign up and attend EVERY session (if you are present at school.) Kindness Club will occur one time each month on Fridays during students’ lunch recesses in the media center. (Dates are below) If your child is interested in joining Kindness Club, please check in and review these expectations with them. |

Every elementary student has been issued a Chromebook, much like a library book, to use as a tool to enhance classroom learning. Although students will not be bringing their devices home daily, you may still choose to purchase insurance for your device using the button above. If purchasing insurance presents a hardship, please contact Mr. Rommel. |
| This marks the second week of our school-wide Positivity Project. The mission of the Positivity Project is to empower America’s youth to build positive relationships by understanding, appreciating, and exemplifying the character strengths in us all. This week our character strength is Open Mindedness. |

Learn By Heart Campaign Each day, our school staff makes a difference in the lives of children. They teach them how to read, serve them lunch, safely transport them to and from school and make sure their learning environment is clean and welcoming. They prepare our students for successful careers and life after the classroom. They challenge students to reach their greatest potential and support them every step of the way. These superheroes make a tremendous difference, and for that, our community would like to say, "Thank you!" Join us as we celebrate the hard work and dedication of everyone on our staff by supporting the Learn by Heart campaign.
The Learn by Heart campaign is designed to increase the awareness of the dedication of our educators. The focus of the campaign will be to highlight relationships between educators, students, parents, and community members through stories. In the coming months, we will be sharing those stories with you to showcase our educators, who serve as the lifeblood that makes the district beat. Do you have a story to share? Simply send your story background, participant names, relevant pictures, and any pertinent information including quotes and specific story elements to Kristen Bawks at kbawks@sjschools.org. |
