Accelerated Math 2023 for Incoming 6th graders!

Parents,

I'm going to administer the algebra prognosis test in the next week or two. Please reach out to me if you would like your child to take the test for the accelerated math program next year. There will be a few students that I'm going to recommend to take it. I'm also going to give the kiddos the opportunity to take if they would like(teacher, parent, and student recommendation).

Reading- finish Cause and Effect

  • Comprehension: Apply metacognitive strategies: Make Connections, Ask Questions to Analyze the Author’s Purpose.
  • Vocabulary: Build Tier Two Vocabulary: Words That Describe Characters.
  • Fluency: Read with inflection/ intonation (stress)  Choral-read, echo-read, partner-read.
  • Shared Writing: Create a class Fluency anchor chart and create a class list of ideas about the author’s purpose.

Math- We're continuing the unit on Place Value and Decimal Operations.

5.5 Place Value Patterns and Decimal Operations

Unit Goals

  • Students build from place value understanding in grade 4 to recognize that in a multi-digit number, a digit in one place represents 10 times as much as it represents in the place to its right and of what it represents in the place to its left. They use this place value understanding to round, compare, order, add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals.

Section A Goals

  • Compare, round, and order decimals through the thousandth place based on the value of the digits in each place.
  • Read, write, and represent decimals to the thousandth place, including in expanded form.

Section B Goals

  • Add and subtract decimals to the hundredths using strategies based on place value
